Doune Castle

Doune3.jpg (16021 bytes)

Remember the castle the Frenchmen threw cows off in
Monty Python and the Holy Grail?
This is it. For Ivan Hoe (BBC/A&E version) fans, this
castle was used for many scenes.
This was, by far, my favorite castle we visited.

The main gate which leads through a short tunnel into the bailey.

Doune10.jpg (23726 bytes)

Looking back at the other end of the entrance tunnel from the bailey.
The well is in the foreground.

Doune8.jpg (13975 bytes)

The curtain wall opposite the entrance.

Doune9.jpg (21728 bytes)

The kitchen fireplace. For scale, that's Pam Poulsen, 5'2" tall.

How's this for a room with a view? Actually,
this is the view of the River Teith from behind Doune Castle.
